Dear Parents, Guardians, Family Members, and Students:
Welcome back to school and to the 5th grade homeroom! I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful summer. My name is Florence Johnson, and I am looking forward to working with you and your child this school year. A very busy year is planned for our students. My expectations for the students this year will be high. They will need to work hard and do their best. My goal for this year is to help your child to be an independent and responsible learner, as well as, to show him or her how to make responsible choices. To accomplish this goal, there will be regular homework and we will be making the most of our class time. We will be completing several themed projects in science and social studies. We will be taking several off-campus field trips to area museums. In addition, we will host in-class field trips with special guest presentations and demonstrations particularly in Science.
Homework will be given on a daily basis. Most assignments and activities will be done in class. In some cases, students will take home assignments that they need to complete and in other cases they will have review homework in preparation for upcoming tests. Homework completion is mandatory. It provides additional lesson practice and study preparation. Students will receive a participation grade for homework completed. Students will be given time in class and over the weekend to access technology to complete online assignments.
I have created a class website at msjohnson5thgrade.weebly.com so that you can stay informed about what we are learning in the classroom, access our class calendar and parent portal, students can access online resources to complete homework assignments and projects, and send me an email.
Thank you for the class supplies. Your donations are greatly appreciated. As the year progresses, we will need to re-up on supplies, typically when we come back from winter break. I humbly request your assistance at that time as well. These supplies include tissue, cleaning wipes, hand sanitizer, paper towels, copy paper and pencils.
Please be sure to complete all necessary forms included in the Parent Packet and return them by the end of the week. As well, if you are available on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis for any type of classroom volunteering, please be sure to fill out the volunteering form which can also be found in your parent packet. There will be many opportunities to assist our class, both inside and outside the classroom. Thanks in advance for playing an active role in your student’s educational experience. I am thrilled to be working with you and your child this year and hope to see you soon!
